SP2 Advanced pre-combustion CO₂ separation

In SP2 – Advanced pre-combustion CO₂ separation focus is put on membranes, sorbents and solvents that can achieve the compound S/T objective of DECARBit. Although substantial progress has been made in past and ongoing projects within these subjects (notably EU FP projects DYNAMIS, CACHET and ENCAP) the cost of capturing CO₂ is still high. Main approaches to improve energy efficiency in such processes are:

• Reducing the temperature swing of the syngas by increasing the capture process operating temperature.

• Reducing the energy costs of the capture process itself (novel concepts and processes).
